Well...it's finally here; our last general body meeting of the Fall 2019 Semester. This fall semester has been one of our bests for so many reasons: best attendance in years, various guest speakers, best Marketing Week yet, most members to sign-up for volunteer events, and so much more.
Tonight we headed to Phipps Conservatory for their Winter Flower Show and Light Garden as our own well-deserved study break. Thank you to everyone who took the time to smell the roses...or um poinsettias...with us. For those of you who were unable to join us because of upcoming exams and final papers, no worries! We believe that all of our members are going to do so well! A's for everyone!
Once you make it through finals week, we hope that you enjoy your winter break. Take some time to relax and recharge for the spring semester. See you next year!

AMA's Annual Friendsgiving 2019 was one of the biggest and best Friendsgiving AMA has ever hosted. We were all so surprised at the amount of members who attended and the amount of those who brought really amazing food...like super good omg. Everyone on the Executive Board would like to say "thank you SO much" for those of you who joined us and brought something to share. You all are the best.
As great as our Friendsgiving 2019 meeting was, it symbolizes the coming of the end of the fall semester. Once we all return from Thanksgiving Break, we will be tossed into two weeks of, let's just say it, chaos. We have one week of classes and then, our favorite time of the year, finals week.
During our last week of classes we will be attending Phipps Conservatory Winter Flower Show and Light Garden as our last general body meeting of the fall semester! (Keep in mind that Pitt students get in for free with a valid Pitt ID.)
Until then, have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. We can't wait to see you again soon.

In addition to Marketing Week 2019 and Halloween, October meant the kick-off for the Pitt AMA Sales Competition Committee!
This month the Sales Comp Committee traveled to both West Virginia University and Duquesne University. The Committee didn't place in West Virginia but walked away with some valuable experience.
"We are a work in progress," laughed Jake Carpinelli, VP of Sales Competitions. "The Duquesne competition went really well and we did really well!! We didn't place, but one our committee members received an offer for an internship."
The Sales Competition Committee will head to ICSC in Florida and William Paterson University this November for their next competitions. If you see anyone from the committee, be sure to wish them luck!

I joined Pitt AMA in the spring semester of my sophomore year. This meant that I've only been to Marketing Week 2018 in my junior year. It was exciting seeing Pitt AMA prepare for a great week of events. However, when I saw the schedule for Marketing Week 2019, I was even more excited. I was blown away at all of the amazing events our VP, Kerianne Kistner, had coordinated with help from our President, Jess Barone. Here's the schedule:
October 7, Day 1: Student Panel
October 8, Day 2: Guest Speaker from Gatesman
October 9, Day 3: Service and Sundaes
October 10, Day 4: Guest Speaker from PPG
October 11, Day 5: Moxie Site Visit
I thought this schedule had the perfect balance of networking, learning, helping our community, and fun. It was also an honor to put together some of the graphics with Rachel Hannum, VP of Consulting.
Every event is definitely worth going to this year so it should be easy for all our members to attend at least one event to stay a member. Needless to say, I'm really excited for Marketing Week! It's a great way to meet your fellow AMA members and meeting really interesting professionals!
  See you next week!

We’re back with a new #MembersInAction to highlight another one of our AMAzing members! Josie is a junior majoring in Marketing and Business Information Systems. During the summer of 2019, Josie will work as the Youth Programs Assistant at the Westmoreland/Fayette Workforce Investment Board. She will oversee the State/Local Internship Program (SLIP) that helps college students receive wages while working unpaid internships. This requires coordinating over 20 interns and working with about 20 local businesses! Josie will also be involved with plenty of event planning and business administration. What is she most excited for? Developing the organization’s social media platforms and website! Apart from the amazing things Josie will be doing this summer, a fun fact about her is that she loves to knit, crochet, sew, and embroider in her free time!

For this month’s #MembersInAction, we want to you meet Gabriela Thoma! Gabriela is a senior Marketing and BIS major with a certificate in Business Analytics. She’s also the president of the League of Emerging Analytics Professionals (LEAP)! This summer she had the opportunity to intern at Arconic as the Technology Commercialization Intern. Her marketing responsibilities included creating a marketing plan for a new product launch, researching a new market, developing a list of 100 prospective clients for new product mix, and designing marketing and e-marketing materials for email, social media, brochures, and direct mail. Needless to say, Gabriela was definitely busy! However, it wasn’t all work and no fun. Gabriela’s favorite experience while working at Arconic was going to the social events hosted around Pittsburgh, specifically with the interns on the Just Ducky Tour. Gabriela’s word of advice for soon-to-be interns is to not let the other interns be your only friends; network around the company, eat lunch with different people, and reach out to other departments to try helping out with different projects. You heard it from her Pitt AMA, don’t be afraid to branch out!
